ZShare is a file hosting website that gives users the ability to upload up to 2 GBs worth of data. The application gives the user complete privacy control. Users cannot view other user’s files unless they are shared by the user uploading the file. The site intend to provide a simple solution for users who need a way to share a file or who want to quickly back up files from their personal computer. Any kind of file can be uploaded, although ZShare does state that there are restrictions on uploading offensive material. The site does not allow hot linking and requires files to be downloaded at least once in a 60 day period to avoid deletion.
ZShare was created in 2005 by KongShare, Ltd. The application was originally intended to offer users a simple yet functional file hosting service. Today, ZShare does just that in a way that appeals to users who want something fast and easy.
There are many file hosting websites out there, so it is really not possible to call ZShare unique. The service offers many of the same features and benefits that similar sites offer. ZShare also offers users two account options (one free and one paid), which is still not terribly different from other sites, but still a nice benefit to users. The site is easy to use which may be more appealing to casual users who do not need a list of features to meet their file hosting needs.
The ZShare website users a low key blue and white color scheme that is highlighted by a hint of orange and green in the stylish ZShare logo. As soon as a new user finds the ZShare homepage, they are provided with the upload tool so they can get started right away. The homepage includes five navigational links across the top and little else. This works very well considering the basic nature of the application’s function.
New users can create an account by clicking on the white “Create Free Account” button at the top of the page. The clean registration form requires a first and last name, username, password, email address, country location and verification code to prove that the user is human. After entering the details, the user can click the terms of service agreement check box before continuing. After submitting their information, the user is advised that they must check their email inbox for a verification email that is required to complete registration
ZShare gives users a few options when creating an account. The first two options are free. One is to use the application without an account, which comes with the lowest download speed priority, 500 MB maximum file upload size, 50 second wait time between downloads, very limited parallel downloads, maximum advertising and the ability to send files to friends through ZShare. Those who choose to make a free account get medium download speed priority, the ability to manage uploads, 1 GB maximum file size, 20 second between download wait times, limited maximum parallel downloads, the ability to upload multiple files at once, medium amount of advertising and security features. The Premium membership costs around $5 for 30 days, around $10 for 90 days and around $30 for one year and upgrades to include high download speed priority, up to 2 GB maximum file size, no between download wait time, unlimited parallel downloads, no advertisements and the ability to use download accelerators.
